  1. Is it in the media or the compatibility of the dvd-r in certain brand/types of dvd players that when I backup some of my original dvd movies that I get skipping and jumping. Is it a compatibility, media, burn speed, software, or hardware issue. Any one? Thanks in advanced.

Common causes of jumping and skipping are:

    1) Cheapo media - this isn't the only problem u can encounter with cheapo media, but it is one of the most common. It can usually be rectified by using higher quality/name brand media, such as Maxell, Ritek, TDK, Fuji .

    2) Burn speed - Try burning at 1x.

    3) Make sure your blank media is clean, and that you have no other processes running on your puter as you burn.

If u have a compatability issue, you typically can't see jack, since yer player won't even acknowledge the disc's presence.

  3. Another cause of skipping and jumping of discs is labelling. Don't label DVDR's

  4. I hope I don't have an extra 100 blank dvd media disks for nothing because I have media from shop 4 tech. 2x certified. But I am gonna try reducing the write speed, close all other programs and so forth. I label all of my media, so I am gonna leave all labels OFF of the discs as well and see what happens. Thanks for the replies.

If it does turn out to be a media issue, you can always use those discs for data storage. Data use is a bit more forgiving than Video.
