  1. I searched around the site and couldn't really find anything about how to burn only the movie using Nero 5.5. I want to backup my movies with minimal loss in quality...what's the best way I can do this? Do I need to get some program to compress the movie files? I don't need to copy any of the special features or even a menu on the DVD.
I have DVD X copy Xpress also, but would like to find a way to burn with similar quality without the "DVD-Backup" message popping up before the movie. From what I have read, I don't believe I can remove that if I only have the Xpress version. Any help or guidance would be appreciated.

You can use DVDDecrypter and rip the DVD "movie files only" (menu item) and if they are still too big then use DVDShrink to compress it down to DVD size. Both are freeware! Then burn with Nero 5.5 (I use all these myself all the time and they work good, DVDDecrypter, DVDShrink and Nero 5.5 are my standard equipment). You may want to try DVDShrink and rip the whole DVD with everything and burn it to a DVD-RW (to test it) and see if the quality is ok with you before going for "movie files only" as the quality may surprise you.

  3. Thanks for the help GKar...appreciate it. I guess I'll have to do some reading on how to use em....seems simple though.

  4. just use DVD Shrink to reauthor it with the movie only. using DVD Decryptor first is unnecessary and if its too big you can't open the files in Shrink because it will be missing the primary IFO file that shrink needs if you use Decryptor to rip the movie only.

Open DVD Shrink and let it scan the disk. click re-author and a new window will open. click the main movie folder in the first windon and drag the movie to the second window. in the second window select only the audio and subtitle tracks you want until your compression ratio goes to 100%, which means there will be no compression. Click backup and you'll have a set of files ready to burn once it rips.

    1) If the movie is small enuff, just do an ISO copy with DVD Decrypter.

    2) Use DVD Shrink to rip and process/compress. However, Shrink will occasionally fail to rip a movie. In that case....go to #3.

    3) If you rip with DVD Decrypter, but want to process with DVD Shrink, you must rip it in FILE mode so you'll get all the files. Otherwise, Shrink will say the IFO file is missing.

If u use method 2 or 3, just put the resulting files into the VIDEO_TS folder that Nero provides for u in DVD-Video mode.

When using DVDXCOPYXPRESS, the burned copy has a very annoying 15 second warning disclaimer from
321Studios at the beginning of the DVD. To get rid of it, try this:

    For DVD X COPY Xpress:

    1. Rip the movie
    2. When the screen comes up asking you to insert your blank DVD, don't close it!!
    3. Copy the VIDEO_TS.VOB, .IFO and .BUP from the ORIGINAL movie disc, to the temp\VIDEO_TS folder that was written by DXCX.
This will overwrite the ones created by DXCX. A simple drag-n-drop procedure in WinXP.
    4. Delete the 'Archive.txt' file from the root temp folder
    5. Insert your blank DVD and continue your burn! The program doesn't check for an archive.txt file at this point,
it just burns whatever you have in the temp dir.
