  1. Ive got a playback problem. I've made a few backups on ritekG04 media, using recordnow max 4.5, and my NEC 1300a,1.08fw. Heres the problem, the dvd backups play fine in my new panasonic F85S player but have problems toward the end of movies on my JVC XV-M567. They start skipping and have other visual problems in the middle and end of the dvd. All the backups I previously made on optodisc 2x's media play fine on both players. Why would the ritekG04 (superior media) have problems on my JVC when the optodisc didn't? I thought the ritek would have better player support, not worse. Did i get a bad batch? any thoughts, suggestions, or explanations would be much appreciated. TIA!!

    thanks

  2. I kind of have the same issue. I just got done making a backup of my copy of Pirates of the Caribbean and it wouldn't play in my Sony DVD player. I kept getting the error 'Dirty Disc'. Well, I had to reburn the movie on another blank dvd-r and it works fine. Weird.

  3. All the problems usually happen midway or toward the end of the movie. I've had the problem backing up Pirates of the Carribean (major skips, visual defectsl, etc) , boogienights, hamburger hill, and probably others i haven't seen yet. I use dvd decrypter, clonedvd/dvdshrink, and recordnow max 4.5.

So it could be grade B or C media I got it from rima.com. Why would it play fine in my newer panasonic DVD-F85S player but have problems in my older JVC XV-M567? What should i do with the remaining 75+ DVD-R's? I dont want backups that aren't compatible w/ older players. again TIA!!!

    TIA

  4. @ sydemon, at leat your RITEK burn. That's much better then many others experiences lately. If one of your standalones reads the disks perfectly...then it seems to be that there are more errors towards the ends of those ritek disks that your other player can't compensate for. I've seen this too....some players will skip on certain media from beginning to end...but others will play the same piece of media flawlessly.

It just depends on the player you have. If you burn a lot of disks..i'd try to lower the burn speed and try a few of those RITEKS like that. That should help your particular issue. Either that or you can try and return the disks to rima..i'm sure they'll work with you. It's not a good time to be purchasing Ritek disks right now. Try and get some TDK, MAXELL, or Taiyo Yuden disks if you can. You'll be perfectly fine with those 'at the present time' that is.

  5. I see so some players can compensate for errors better than others. Thats why my newer panasonic plays them w/o problems, while the older JVC doesn't. Boy DVD-R media is really hit and miss. I'll try to return the media i still have. I tried pirates of the carribean at 2x and still had problems. Sucks that ritek isn't the same quality i always heard they were. I even paid extra for them thinking they were superior quality.

Yes it is....that's about as accurate of a statement as you can get.

You live and learn. Like I said, at least your disks burn and at least play and certain players such as your panasonic so you aren't out completely. Almost all of the newer DVD standalone/setup players will be able to play more types of media better because the manufacturers are now aware of the growing technology of DVD-R AND DVD+R, and they want to be competitive with the all the other companies. You can't do that if you are manufacturing DVD players in 2003-2004 that only play commercial DVD's, or only "specific" types of media...while most other manufacturers are on top of the game and producing extremely versatile DVD PLAYERS.

  7. I had a similar situation with the same Riteks. After using DVDShrink as usual, burning with current Nero 5, the DVDs would not play in a Philips DVDR-985. They play fine on most other DVD players. Even the lowly Princos played fine on the Philips when burning the same files. I then tried upgrading my Pioneer firmware for my A06 burner from 1.06 to 1.07. Now the Riteks are fully capatible so it appears to be a minor compatibility issue corrected by upgrading firmware. I am once again free from the dreaded coasters.

  8. thanks for the help defense. I just sent and RMA request to www.rima.com and will keep this thread posted as to their customer support. i'll probably try some 4x optodisc, the 2x i was using worked great. the TDK and Taiyo Yuden are a bit too rich for my blood, but i bet you get what you pay for. So if im back up here complaining about problems with the optodisc, just call me cheap

  9. took me a while to RMA the media but i finally did and rima refunded me for the 79 dvd-r's i still had, prorated. I still lost out on the shipping costs but its better than nothing. i'd have to say rima.com rocks, hightly recommended. i'm going to order some optodisc 4x gold top from them.

I recently started having this problem. Ritek G04's and an NEC 1300a.

I have resolved the issue. My newer DVD player is overheating. I have an add-on 5.1 stereo unit sitting on top of it. I turn on the player and the amplifier, insert a disk and watch. After about 60-80 minutes it starts to get flaky. I move the amplifier to the side of the TV, and the problem went away. I'd also get SVCD's that have the sound stop at some random place. This player really really sucks, but I can't find the receipt to take it back.

The disks check out 100% in DVDINFOPRO, and play in my Apex 1201 with no issues.

  11. This might sound strange, but i've always found ritek g04 media
one of the most compatiable on the market, and i found that the make of
recorder is equally important as the media you choose.

Since dvd recorders have been avaliable i've used several models, by pioneer 103-104-105, panasonic 9581 and i found that using the same media on different recorders produced varying results.

if i burned ritek g04 on my pioneer recorders then skipping would occur frequently on a number of my dvd players and also on various players owned by friends.

    but,

if the same movies were burned using my cheap panasonic 9581 recorder
then skipping only very, very rarely occurs on any dvd player i test.

And when using really cheap media on the pioneers the results get worse,
but the panasonic does not seem to suffer as much and very rarely skips.

It must be remembered that some dvd players are better suited to playing Dvd-r than others, and that is one reason for varied results.

I have noticed that if i hold the disc upto the light it is noticable that the appearance of the burned disc varies between the 2 makes, whereas the pioneer seems to give a uniform appearance to the burn across the entire disc. The panasonic burned discs alter in appearance towards the last outer quarter of the disc, as if it changes the way it burns the outer edge of the disc.

I don't know whats happening, all i can honestly say is that the panasonic drive produces more compatable/reliable discs than my pioneer drives, this is why i now use 2 of them for duplicating, and this is based purely on 18months of burning between 150-200 dvd-r per month with only a low percentage of come backs.

    cheers

I've not experienced any problems with RitekG04 discs.

Never a skip, never a freeze, never a problem. I've burnt clear out to the very edge with a 4,669,432,527 byte burn and never any problem.

You guys sure your discs are not scratched?
