I am a sort-of newbie at the dvd backup thing. I am using DVD Decrypter to rip, DVD Shrink to compress, and my OEM version on RecordNow DX to burn the compressed files to DVD with a Lite-On LDW-411S 4x Dual format drive.

The problem I am having is that the discs I am burning with RecordNow aren't being recognized by my laptop, but are being recognized by the burning drive and my PS2. I have made sure that RecordNow is closing the disc after burning, and that the cd name is in all caps without spaces--I thought that was the problem. But apparently, it isn't. I've looked around online and found that my laptop's drive, a QSI-SBW-241 CDRW-DVDROM, is notorious for not recognizing DVD-R's. However, I had one DVD that was DVD-5, which I used DVD Decryptor to directly copy to a DVD-R, and this disc plays fine in my laptop's drive. So, I'm wondering if this is a problem with RecordNow, or some other mysterious thing.

Note: I have been using the same media, Memorex 4x DVD-Rs, from day one.

  2. Hi,

Unless RecordNow Max verified that the DVDR burnt was unsuccessful, I would say that it would be the laptop's DVDROM drive not being able to handle that specific media. I would suggest trying different medias to reveal the ones that do work with that particular laptop drive. Or you can find a replacement DVD-ROM that is more compatible - but that may be a bit more expensive.

    Good luck,

Problem Solved - I purchased a copy of CloneDVD, since it compresses and burns all in one program...no problems since I have started using it.
