  1. Hello

I have been reading loads on the possibility of upgrading the firmware
on my Sony DWU14A dvd writer (OEM) to the official Sony DRU510A
    version (currently 1.0d)

My reason for doing this is that I have found that some movies start
jumping on the DVD -r that I am currently burning to (Dabs home brand
unfortunately). Does anyone have any horror stories about doing this
before I go ahead and do it? Apparently the firmware is the only
difference between the official and the OEM version. Do I gain enough from completing this to make the upgrade worthwhile? Finally, does anyone wlse have this jumping issue towards the end of movies. Your views will be appreciated.

    Dell 2.8Ghz P4
    Windows XP Home

    Cheers

    Andy

  2. I think that your problems with "jumps" are due to you are filling so much the media. To avoid this problem I suggest you donīt full them so much (For example, if you are using Princo or Sky or Millenium ,I will writte on them about 4,2Gb , no more ).The other solution is that you buy good disk like Verbatim, TDK, Sony. I know that they are more expensive than the others, but with theirs you wonīt have problems.

  3. I bought this drive (DWU14A) a few months ago. I flashed with a hacked version of the current firmware at the time (1.0d i think). It's been working like a charm. However, in hindsight - if you are considering updating your firmware - I would definitely do the update (from OEM to full DRU510A). Otherwise, you reduce yourself to having to hunt down a hacked version of the latest firmware everytime you want to upgrade. Cheers!

I dont know if I updated my firmware, cause when I rebooted the program was still running and after I closed it windows xp was running properly. Now when I check the version of firmware with nerotool its 1.0d.
