If you have a 12x burner, how do you burn at 8, 10, 12x without getting bad disks? How much memory should you have? What other things help your burner run smoother?

My best bet is to get one with Burn-Proof technology! I have a Lite-on 16x10x40x and the first time I burnt a disc it stoped and started several times but it created a succsessful disc.

I don't think you really need any more memory than what your os requires.
Make sure you defrag your hardrive, that can help alot.
Make sure there arent alot of programs running in the background. CTR ALT DEL and look at your task manager and close anything you dont need.
Some burning programs let you set the amount of space you want to use as a buffer, try increasing this if it will let you.
I have no problems burning at max speeds. I burn all cdrs at 16x and cdrws at 12x. -
Another thing could be your OS. I found that after upgrading to XP, I have yet to make a coaster, even while doing other things that I used to not be able to do in Windows 2000 and before that, while burning.
But yeah, defrag often, it really makes things work better than you may think, even if it is not speedwise and notable. Also try to burn after a recent reboot, unless you're in XP, in which that doesn't seem to matter.
