I burn Data DVDs with Veritas Record now software on a PC using UDF without joliet filenames which I am assuming should be PC and MAC readable. I have yet to get a MAC to read these burns.
Does anyone know how to burn a DVD that is PC and MAC readable.
I have read that UDF is suppose to be the answer but that is what I am using.
Thanks,
Scott

No UDF is for movies not data. A Mac can read ISO 9660. Burn the data in that format and it should work on both platforms.

I had this problem recently when sharing a UDF/ISO data disc with a friend who has a Mac.
But I know that Mac can read UDF data discs because I've had them recognize CDs that were burned UDF/ISO. And anyway, if it cannot read the UDF part it should read the ISO. -
I do not seem to have any other option other than UDF to burn a DVD with this software. Do I need better DVD burning software to do the job?
If so what do you recommend? -
Veritas Record Now should be good enough.
Start a new data disc. Then right click and select "recording options." Then see what it has for DVD settings and click under it for more options.
I've got Record Now DX but I'm pretty sure you must also have the option of recording in straight ISO in your version.
I'm wondering if Macs will read DVD+R of any stripe, or whether they can only read DVD-R. -
Under CD File system type it gives you ISO options.
I know ISO works with CDs on Macs when I record them since I have been doing tha tfor years.
Under DVD file system it only gives me 2 options.
UDF with Joliet and UDF without Joilet.
So what you are saying is that if I can get this software to record in ISO on a DVD it will work on a mac.
Maybe this software is not capable of recording ISO on a DVD and I need to upgrade it to a better veritas version that does? -
I checked my recordNow DX and I also only have the same two DVD options.
Vintageman was the one who thought it would work on Macs with straight ISO. I think DVDs (even DVD data discs) were designed for the UDF file system and so I think the UDF/ISO is the only way to go. But I haven't solved the Mac compatibility thing.
I note that Nero 6 (and maybe 5) will allow one to burn a DVD data disc in straight ISO. -
I use Stomp RNM and all I do is click data disc then add the folders, then they are 100% compatible with everything I've tried, including at iMac DV+.

No, Macs will not read DVD+R or DVD+RW of any kind. Data, movies, you name it, it's completely unsupported by Apple. The Superdrives burn to DVD-R, and my Mac with DVD-ROM can read DVD-Rs ok, though I have still to find the perfect solution for burning DVDs that will play well on the Mac.
