I was having such a hard time with a slow XP computer I broke down and bought a new computer an Lenovo however it has vista . I plan on using my slow computer to go online only as the antivirus and firewall protection is what was making it too slow to run my other applications I had to shut them down just to use my other software since. I already tried to load nero 7 and it messed up my installation of vista . I really hate to buy new software for burning dvd's but nero 7 does not work on vista and now I have lost all the software other than vista that came with the PC. I did not realize that the installation discs that came with the machine is only vista and the device drivers. Does nero version 9 have any problems with a new install of vista with no updates this PC is never going to go online

toolady,

My guess is you needed a better antivirus/spyware/firewall setup. Using Norton or McAfee by any chance? I'd be sure to use a smaller footprint/resource set of tools. I use 1) Avast, a free antivirus that you only need to register once a year. Fully automatic; 2) Ad-Aware, manual scans are free, must pay for automagic, to keep away most spyware/trojans 3) Spybot Search&Destroy, manual scan are free, must pay for automagic, gets the few that sneak by Ad-Aware and has an immunize option to keep things at bay and a TeaTimer program that watches for registry changes. Similar to UAC on Vista but more friendly.
Between the above, a good defrag, and a router with built-in firewal/NAT my guess is that your XP pc will be just fine.

Yes, known MAJOR problems with Nero 7 and Vista. Version 9 should be fine.
Others are mentioning using IMGBURN, and are correct - to a point. IMGBURN is the 'burning software' of choice around here and directly answers your question. However, I think you're looking for something to compile your programs/songs together - authoring - and then burn. Nero 9 should be just fine for that.
See #1 for #2. All information still applies. Personally, I also disable UAC and Defender in Vista.Have a good one,

Nero 9 will work with Vista. Later versions of Nero 7 would work with Vista if you ran them in compatibility mode. Eight worked well with Vista. For burning purposes, IMGburn will work, but so would Nero. Try to approach this with an open mindset and choose the software that works best for you.

Thanks for the replies , My old computer was not worth upgrading. It does not have enough memory for all the software I use. It has 2 g of memory. This example will give you an idea of how slow it runs. I have a 16 x dvd burner and use 8x dvd's it takes one hour to burn a dvd on it. I use diskeeper and professional mechanic. It still takes the same amount of time if I have those softwares shut down. The computer is on wireless router. I have leased software on it I have to wait til the lease expires before I can dump the OS and do a fresh install. I think my OS is corrupted . Internet Explorer and Windows explorer freezes alot. I have system mechanic on it.
