  1. Nero 5.10 oem only reconizes the burner it was bundled with?

I bought the program from directdeals, installed it fine,
and then when i open it up it says Nero only reconizes the burner it was bundled with. Even after i update it it still says this.

This program only came with a cd not a cd and burner

It has my burner plextor 8432t displayed but it has an x to say
    it won't use it.

    How do I fix this?

    From the Ahead website FAQ's:

Problem: "Nero worked fine for me until I bought a new recorder. Now it does not recognize the recorder any more."

Solution: You have an ‘OEM Bundled’ version of Nero that will only work with the model recorder it came with. We offer this option to our OEM's so that we can offer the software to the large OEM’s at a lower price.

Sounds like this is what you got, an OEM version and you won't be able to use it with anything but the drive it came with. Might want to contact the people you bought it from and request a refund or replacement with software that will work with your burner.

  3. I doubt if there is much you can do about that. With 5.10 OEM, you can't even get the $10 off on retail box upgrade or the $20 on downloaded version upgrade. You may have to pay the full $69 price for the download version.

Yes, this is true. I found this out when I bought a new DVD writer and it wouldn't recognize it.

Not true. I got the 5.0x OEM version bundled with my CD. I was able to upgrade to 5.5 for free through the downloads available on the Nero website.

I recently bought the FULL Nero 6.x ULTRA EDITION package for the upgrade/download price of ~ $50. This includes ALL of their software (Nero Burning ROM, Nero Express, Nero BackItUp, Nero Showtime, Nero SoundTrax, etc.).

The only thing you need is the serial # from the original software which is hard to find. I found it by searching through the Win98 registry. There is a FAQ on this at the Nero website (http://www.nero.com/us/631898246026563.html).

My suggestion: Upgrade to the latest version of Nero 6 for the $50. It is well worth the money (considering the original version was free to begin with).
