Until now I used PowerDvd 5 that came bundled with an older dvd burner, and it worked fine until recently. When I connected to the net my cpu shot up to 100% with PowerDvd.exe showing in 'processes' as the cause of the problem, so guessed that my Powerdvd had somehow got infected and I uninstalled it. Problem solved.
Instead of re-installing it, I installed PowerDvd 6 (bundled) to try out. The only trouble now is when I double click on 'powerdvd6' to open, it automatically opens up my dial-up connection inducing me to connect to the net. Is there a hidden malware/spyware that comes with bundled PowerDvd 6, and is there any way to get rid of it ? Its really annoying.

  2. PowerDVD installs a lookup service, it's not malware. If you want to stop it, look for services in the administrative tools, find the PowerDVD service, double click it and change it from automatic to disabled.

Silly me. In the configuration settings, 'automatically connect to internet for auto updates', untick.
