Hi there, just wondering if n e 1 has used this powerful programme to author 2 films to 1 dvdr. I have a slight problem with it, could somebody help me please ?? I have reduced both films to 2.2 gig each, have de-muxed vid/aud, i have taken both films into DVD Lab, have created my own background, with Play Movie and Scene Selection buttons, have also used Auto Chapters to create chapters, also created chapters manually, the problem i have is that when i have authored and burned disc, i can select Play Movie and Scene Selections with DVD Player remote, for both films, but on the 1st film, when i go to scene selections, i can select all scenes, except the last 2, the second film works perfectly, i have created 11 scene selections, counting the beginning of film as chapter 1, so i use the template for 12 movie selections, which when used in DVD Lab only gives me the 1 scene selection page. It's as if it doesn't recognise the last 2 chapters of the 1st film, although there r pictures from the film there. Could someone please help me ???

    Many Many Thanx

  2. Sounds like DVD-Lab got hosed up when it tried to create the links between the different chapters. It's happened to me before. What you'll need to do is go back into your project and look at all the connections that the scene select templates created and make sure that all the UP, DOWN, LEFT and RIGHT links are going to where you think they should.

More than likely, those links either didn't get created or got skipped.

At the top of the menu you created, there should be an icon that looks like a suare with different colored arrows coming out of it and on the right side there is a down arrow. If you click the down arrow, you should get a menu with options like SHOW ALL, SHOW ALL UP, etc...

Click on each of these and this will show you where the links have been routed. If they are not going where you want, uncheck the AUTO-ROUTE box and corect them. When you uncheck Auto-Route, 4 boxes to the right should be selectable. These are the manual routing buttons. Just drag a line from where you want it to start and where you want it to go.

...plus you can create DVD to HD, test it with PowerDVD and then burn. Burning directly to disc is risky as sometimes a DVD creation program may hickup and misplace or ignore the link. Happened to me before in DVDLab (even though it is a great app).

When u say "those links either didn't get created", could u explain to me if i am doing Scene Selections correctly please, i use the 12 box template to create scenes, and create 11 chapter points, including the start of movie this gives me 12 scene selections. When i have Movie 1, Movie 2 in left hand column of programme, i then drag 1st movie over to the 1st Play Movie, which i created, then drag 2nd movie over to the 2nd Play Movie, then i drag Scene Selections for movie 1 over the scene selection i created for movie 1, same for the second Scene Selections for movie 2, could u please advise me if this is correct, or should i drag them and drop in n e particular order ???

    Many Thanx

  5. If you are using the template, then you are not doing anything wrong, it's the program when it creates the templates. I've noticed sometimes that it jumps from one chapter still to two chapter stills down instead of the one right next to it.

All I'm suggesting is that you double check the links that DVD-Lab is creating before you actually burn the DVD.

As far as what order you add the movies in, it doesn't really matter. Just make sure that you conect them together in the conections area in the proper order. Then, when DVD-Lab compiles the finished product, they will play in the order you specified. If you add them in the order you want them to play, it will just make linking them easier as they will be nex t to each other, you won't have to move them around or have confusing lines going all over.

I disagree, you shouldn't use PowerDVD to test a dvd compilation,
it's not 100% proof, (own experieence) better burn it on dvd-rw,
and check it on a stand-alone dvd player.
    Thanks,

Agree, don't test it on a PC. It's too fast and simple. Burn DVDRW, save your time. And never trust your eyes.

  8. The only thing is, the standalone must be suitable to play dvd rw's,
most of the time the manual will state this, and most of the models do so now.

but strage "cases" also happen..... a friend of mine has a dvd (standalone)
player, where the manual explicitly states: no playback of any writeable
media, but i burned a movie for him on dvd-r (yes, the minus kind)
and it plays ! so i burned another one same brand, Emtec, but different
ATIP, and it doesn't play !
    Thanks,

A lot in DVDLab is automated, but still you have the "freedom" to do the things you want, you start "dragging" the movie, into the lower left "field" you can then decide if you want to re-mux, or not, then drag it to the main
"plan" you will then use mainly from the pulldown menu's, the options beneath "movie" and "menu".
You can also "drag" the background, buttons, frames, etc.. of the tab-pages below, to the diagram/project window, double-click on any part of that, to work that out in detail.
I think DVDLab is great, it's easy to use, and you get good-looking results,
in a pretty fast way, please describe what you want and i'll try to help you.
    Thanks,

Or... you could use TMPGEnc.- DVD Author, this is a very basic authoring
prog. (very simple) but it can do, what you want it to do, but it makes a lot of menu's... which you can keep "compact" with DVDLab, by using less menu's. (you have more control)
    Thanks,

(First you can maybe try to set the links manualy, if you haven't done this already)

You are not using a beta version of DVDLab ?
or, is the time between these chapters, or the previous ones, very short ?
If you're using a beta version, try to use the latest non beta version,
but before that, de-install DVDLab completely, check also if al registry-keys are removed from DVDLab, then install latest non-beta version of
DVDLab, and watch if the problem is gone..
    Thanks,

Not too sure if it is the Beta version, will check it out, but i swapped the programme with a mate for some other software, he's using it without n e problems at all, 1 thing i thought of trying is to set the last chapter point at the very end of the 1st film, not sure if this will make a difference, will give it a try in a few days, off to Eurodisney for a few days with the kids and mrs , will b back Sunday, would u mind Yodel if i send u a PM when i get back please, if i try the last chapter at the end of 1st film and it doesn't work out ??????

    Thanx For Your Help
