  1. I installed the new 2.0g firmware on my burner and ever since doing that I can't burn -r media. It stops at 51% everytime. I can burn +r media perfectly though. I then rolled it back a revision and the same thing happened. I was considering rolling it back even further to see if I get the functionality back.

  2. I would guess that these are disk that worked before the update?
What speed are you tring to burn 2x, 4x, or 1x?
    Are they generic?
If so, go out and by a Verbatim if you dont have one just to use as a test.

If the problem persist even after going back to an eariler firmware, try restoring your system to a time before the update. You need XP for this one. It may or may not help but its worth a shot.

  3. They have been very picky about write speed for minus media for me but mine always writes a disk properly if slowly. It very well could be a media fault if your now using different media then what worked before the upgrades. If you added any new burning software you might have created a conflict that is causing your problem also. When mine errors out it usually just says some error and stops sometimes before it even burns the disk when it doesn't like the media I'm using. I have had it quit part way through but it has been rare and usualy the next try is fine or at least in a different spot, never the same place twice like yours.

My Sony DRU-500a is flashed to 2.0f. I haven't flashed to 2.0g because everything (so far) seems to be working well. In fact, I'm getting 4x burn speeds in Nero using TDK 2x DVD-R media. So I'd say if you've flashed back to 2.0f and still can't burn DVD-Rs the problem is likely not with the firmware but is somewhere else.

I have never heard of that one either. rkr1958, do you have any playback problems after burning those 2x dics at 4x?

Not all. These are the discs that I use when I want to make a reliable backup that'll play well near the end. For example, I used IC7 to backup LOTR TT to a single disc, originally an Accu DVD-R. I got freezing and blockness right near the end when it'd been playing continuously. I put the backup on a TDK disc and no problem.

    FYI: TDI 2x DVD-R (DVD-R47ACB15). 4.31 GB (4,700,000,000 Bytes) in 15-minutes.

Also, I went from 1.0f to 2.0f and the burn speeds on my Accu's went from 1x to 2x. However, with 1.0f I use to get a "Cyclic Reducduancy Error" on about half of the Accus DVD-Rs that I used for data and data backups. This problem seems to have gone away with 2.0f. Data discs are now much more compatible with computer DVD-ROM drives.
