Hello all, it doesn't matter what software I use, when I try and rip the vob files to my HDD it will only do it at 2x extraction rate although my DVD drive is capable of 16x, can anyone tell me why?

Check to make sure that you have DMA enabled for your DVD-ROM drive. Also some people have trouble when the HD and DVD-ROM are on the same chain. So maybe move the DVD-ROM to 2nd master.

Thanks Vejita, I already have DMA mode activated, and it is already the Master on the Secondary IDE port with a Plextor CD-RW which is also in UDMA mode-2.

Do you have a Toshiba by any chance? Some models will only rip encrypted dvd's at 2x by design. If the dvd is unencrypted, I can rip fast, if not, it takes 30 mins..no big loss

Furthermore - make sure that you have the latest IDE drivers installed - also - if you're into tweaking your BIOS - you might try testing some different settings having to do with the IDE channels...
what is you rig setup, btw? -
You are lucky! I wish i could rip at 2x. My #$%#@$ 12x DVD rips at 0.9x. 48 min for avg. DVD.(Shocking) Tried everything! UDMA crashes my PC.It is a Secondary
Slave. Nothing helps -
Ok, Here's my setup, Toshiba DVD, Secondary Master,in UDMA mode(that explains most of it doesn't it?), Plexwriter PX161040A CD-RW, Secondary slave, also in UDMA mode, IBM Quad speed SCSI CD-ROM, Gigabyte Motherboard, PIII800EB, 1x18Gb UDMA66 Hdd, 1x20Gb Maxtor UDMA100 (both on a udma66 slot), Matrox G400 Dualhead AGP card, 1xSW1000XG Yamaha soundcard and 1xDS2416 Yamaha DSP Factory soundcard.
Gideon, you mentioned that some DVD's will only rip at 2x by design, what does that mean, is it a hardware limitation or is it a firmware limitation? That would sort of explain why I had a DVD rip at 9x speed the other week, the film was all Region (0,1,2,3,4,5,6) so that would make it unprotected, right?
Alexb, Man, have you got some problems, How do you mean UDMA crashes your PC?
