its the cycle of life. either embrace it or be unhappy for ever.

I buy a Dual G4 1.25 and what seems like the next day the G5 is released. Not only that, they are cheaper!!!!!!!!!

    Ticked? Sure. But its life.

You can also console yourself in the fact that those new ones (ADVC 300) are about 2x the price of the ADVC 100. I don't know if I would spend $500 on a video capture device, when I could get a decent DV cam for that price that also did analogue to DV conversion. There's a slight difference with the PowerMac G4 example in the fact that there's a large Mac rumors community that should have hinted that the G5 wasn't too far off. I held on to my G4/466 until those G5s came out, no matter how painful it was (not too bad).
I like systems, their application excepted. (George Sand, translated from French), "J'aime beaucoup les systèmes, le cas d'application excepté."

it depends on how much you trust those rumors. According to the ones i read, the FW800s were suppose to be on the scene for quite some time before the G5's came out. So i bought mine. then what do you know, G5 is now avaliable for order!

And, hey, you may look all the smarter for it. The 980 (G6? G5+?) will be sampling in April for a Fall 3.0 ghz release. A +50% speed bump in 12 months...

I vote for G5X, the X is for Xtreme! Just kidding, I think the word du jour is "Underground", so it'll have to be the G5Underground, as despicable as it sounds . . .

  7. This process is an example of Moore's Law. Founder of Intel, he quickly realized that "the power of processors will double" and the prices drop every six months.

Each successive interation of the Power PC chip and the Macs they arrived in has followed this course. The G5 machines are less expensive (I can't honestly call them cheaper) that last year's models, because Apple is more efficient at producing the total machine.

And the caveat about never buy into the first generation until the bugs are worked out applies. Next year's G5s may be worth the wait and save you some bucks.

Or you could get a standalone DVD Recorder with a TBC for less than $500. Phillips DVD75 can be found for $399.
