A friend needed to convert her VHS video to digital format to use in presentation software. Unfortunately she had it converted to a DVD, thinking that she could use the files on the DVD in her software.
Trying to save her another conversion cost, I am looking into converting her DVD to .mpeg (the only video format that this software imports).
Isn't there a way of converting a .vob file to an .mpeg file with sound included (no seperate ac3 or other)? I thought that this could be done without decoding / encoding?

Look into Vitrtual Dub Mod. It can load VOBs and convert them to AVI. I do not know about encoding, but I suggest you give it a shot and see if it works for you.
Hello. -
TMPGEnc DVD Author can "extract" the MPEG file from the VOB -
1. Use the "ADD DVD Video";
2.the 3rd step of the wizard has an option to "copy the video clip data to the HDD" - if you check this box, then click "OK" it will save an .MPG file to the directory of your choiceYou can't fool me, I'm a moron! -
