Im trying so capture some 3rd (or higher) generation copies of dimu borgir shows and norwegian metal fests (converted from pal-ntsc somehow, not digitally though. Im US-NTSC btw) with avi_io and the video scrambles up very often. It does the same thing on older tapes also where the signal strength is a little degraded. Im watching it on my tv in the backround as I try to capture it and it remains perfectly clear but a little dark, while on the computer it scrambles up every 10 seconds or so. I know it isnt macrovision releated, ive installed an ati macrovision patch and can capture the even most heavily macrovisioned tapes like its not even there at all. Ive tryed using svideo, compisite video, coax ch 3 and they all do exactly the same thing. Is there some sort of threshold that this card (AIW 9700 pro) has for the signal strength of tapes? Is there some way to get around it short of buying some expensive piece of hardware? Here are some pics to show what it does. It will stay clear for a few seconds, then scramble up for a few seconds, then clear back up again, and so on.
