    hi,
Ive got win tv usb and with that software I used to
get a vid signal into photoimpression and take caps with that software.

a vid signal from say a dvd player or sat tv.

Just lately though, using that software, the dreaded blue screen has come up
    and my comp has crashed.

Is there any other way I can take caps from a video signal ?
thanks for help or comment .

    1. It's not as if this is a smart phone screen whr u cn typ lk ths; it's a full-blooded forum where describing your problem in articulate sentences goes a long way in how people like me may figure out how to respond helpfully. Like, is "win tv usb" a physical device connected via USB and a program came with it that you are trying to use, or is "win tv usb" itself a program?? I suppose "take caps from a video signal" means you want to capture an analogue video signal. Do you??

    2. Your computer details need more, well, details; I think "2200" is an AMD processor, your HDD is 500GB, and system memory is 512MB. Correct?? Is that HDD the only HDD and is it SATA or PATA? XP home or pro; SP1, 2 or 3? What other programs are there? etc... The more detailed the computer specs are, it may be the better we can get to how and/or why you got a BSOD, and ultimately how you can do the wretched 'vid cap' successfully.
For the nth time, with the possible exception of certain Intel processors, I don't have/ever owned anything whose name starts with "i".

    Simply do the following

Right Click on “My Computer” and goto “Properties”. Then goto the “Advanced” tab and under the headline “Startup and Recovery”, press the “Settings” button. Untick the “Automatically Restart” box and press Ok.

Then post what the error reports.

And no, your message was easy to understand ... just missing information to give a more direct solution to the problem.

The usb win tv is a little green box outside the comp
I run a cable from a scart plug into it from the sat box or dvd player

but things have got worse... I hit the win tv icon and a window comes up
    cannot locate capture filter !
when I go to software like irfan view and
hit ... select twain device.... there is no mention of haupage win tv
    in the list of options
    like there used to be
Ive tried reinstalling with the win tv disc but still
that message comes up.........cannot locate capture filter.

Try this. (make sure the WinTV device is unplugged) Uninstall the WInTV device software. Reboot. Follow the instructions
to "remove and reinstall all USB controllers" (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310575)

Reboot the PC. The USB controllers will reinstall. Follow any messages, reboot if necessary, etc.
Reinstall the WinTV disk. DO not plug in the device unless you are prompted to.

If there is no message asking you to plug in the device, reboot the system after the software
is installed, then plug it in and test.

i WAS trying to get a signal from sat tv, I unplugged the usb and re plugged
a window came up........" wizard find new hardware..".
it had haupage win tv listed,
I let it run its course and bingo the win tv window came up
    with live sat tv.
I could take caps.... (though not as good quality as photo impression...)
I could make little movie clips.... quite good quality . ( though AV and massive meg size )

I went to photo impression.... bingo ... the win tv was listed in the list of twain. devices.
I began taking caps..... 4 caps later the blue screen came up !!!!!

Just went to c disc and saw there is only 5 gig free space in there ...
Could that be part of the prob ?
Ill start moving stuff to usb hard drives and get up to 70 gig free space .

At least my win tv seems to be ok.... Ive had it for prob 7 years and its been
    pretty stable.

It is just this twain business in photo impression....
Twain I think is a pretty heavy deal and prob takes a big hit on cpu ?
Its frozen up my system before.
Somehow I dont think even getting 70 gig of free space on my c drive will
stop me getting blue screen when I start taking caps on photo impression.
