hey im trying to make a VCD of various anime episodes i have, and i was wondering if it was okay to change the video size parameters when encoding to make VCD files? i want to watch them on my stand alone DVD player so i was thinking that since the video size (352x240) is so small on my computer, making it bigger before i encode will make the pixelations a little better when playing on my dvd player?

does this make sense? changing it from VCD size to 16:9 and adding letterbox makes it easier for me to see the subtitles when viewing on my TV. thanks in advance for any replies!

  2. This does not make sense, as VCD has a standardized image size. If you want a bigger size, then you should make a CVD, or a SVCD or a XSVCD or a DVD. Check the "What is" section of this site for more information about all these formats.

    Careful,
High resolution and low bitrate(vcd standard) = bad picture.

okay, ive noticed i lose quality if i try to make it bigger. okay, so i'm making my file into a 352x240 resolution, but when i click the letterbox option, i get black lines on the left and right sides of the video. i want a black outline all around the video file. is there any way to do this on ffmpegx? if i dont put the black bars on top and bottom, subtitles get chopped off. thanks
