I have a 720p .MKV Movie I've downloaded. I'm using ConvertX to DVD.

When the conversion is complete and I burn and play the dvd it has become 720x480 instead of the native 1280x720.
This is not something I have set manually, it's set to "automatic (based on input resolution)"

This also causes the movie to be cutoff a little on the sides.

Any insight as to what going on here?

  2. 720x480 is the largest resolution you can burn onto an NTSC DVD. I suspect the video being cut off on the sides is simply the overscan of your TV -- and it does the same with everything you've ever watched on it. I sounds like ConvertX to DVD did exactly what it was supposed to do.

Ah yes the overscan! I'm not sure why it completely eluded me. I just figured I had goofed something, that's my usual MO.

Anyway I set the proper settings in the dvd player and I get the whole picture now

Your DVD player has an overscan compensation setting? That's very unusual.
