hi i am trying to convert a film to go on dvd.

my problem is i have joined 2 avi files then saved the audio as a wave file with vdub, both seem ok.

if i output joined avi in WMP it plays no probs, but when i put the file in to tmpgenc the screen has no picture from halfway?

    1. a wav file straight from v-dub is not usually dvd compliant, v-dub usually gives you 44100 khz, you need 48000 khz, try usuing goldwave for that.

    2. what do you mean the screen has picture from halfway, do you mean after you convert it, or are you trying to play in tmpgenc....hollaback

Frameserving the joined video from Vdub to TMPGenc will
    probably fix that.

Sorry SIRCOOKS, thats wrong. Virtualdub, in direct stream copy mode, will output whatever was in the avi's audio stream. In full processing mode, ir sample rate will default to whatever is the sample rate of the source audio, but this can be changed using audio->conversion.

In my experience, more avi's (divx's) are encoded using the DVD standard of 48khz sample rate than those with 44.1khz. This was not so true a couple of years ago though.

having said all that, you are right goldwave can also be used to extract the audio and convert the sample rate (if needed).

    ok ,
i stripped the audio in vdub to dvd complience no probs as i normaly do.
i now have 1 avi 1.4gigs,i can play this in wmp no probs .

when i load file in to tmpgenc every thing loads ok.

the problem is file encodes to the end but there is only a picture to half way then the screen goes black
as a test i ran the task bar along as if to put a cut in file and picture is only there till half way.

that could possibly be a codec issue...ive had that before....try uninstalling then reinstalling your codecs or codec pack
