    i am slightly uninformed when it comes to dvd/dvdr and compatibility.
    here's my situation- my dvd player doesn't support svcd's but does when i pull off the header crap. if i burn an svcd movie onto a dvd, will i still encounter the inability to play the movie on my dvd palyer? this is providing i do not go through any hardcore converting, except using svcd2dvd.

    try the samples on www.svcd2dvdmpg.com

    burn them (on RW media) & see what the score is. If it's looking good - download the demo and suck it & see.
