  1. I have an avi file where the audio is in sync. When I open it in virtual dub or tmpg it give me no errors. However, when I convert it to an mpg using tmpg they audio gets out of sync. Any idea how to correct this?

Did you scan the disk for bad frames?
    Hello.

  3. I sure did. 0 frames bad. Again, when I watch the .avi it is fine and in synch. When I convert it to mpg it is out of synch. I treied saving the audio separate as WAV and then re-saving the avi....but that actually saves a new avi which is also out of synch. Any ideas

When you converted it in TMPGEnc, did you try frameserving from Virtual Dub? Have you tried using an external audio encoder with TMPGEnc?
    Hello.

  5. save the audio from your avi as a wav file using virtualdub then when you reencode to vcd using TMPGenc select the video using your avi as your source and your wav file as your audio source. this should sort your synch problems

  6. Tried using the wav file separately and resaving using both virtualdub and tmpg. Same issue. Scanned for bad frames, none found. One thing I noticed is that the first 30 seconds of the mpg are in synch but then it gets out of synch for the remainder of it. Again, the original .avi has no synch problems whatsoever. Am i out of luck

You haven't said what you watch the original with when
    it is in sync.
Can you watch it with Vdub in sync ?

Did you neglect to mention the VBR error from VDUB?

I've made a pledge to myself - to stay out of all xvid threads. (sigh) More trouble, typing, and bandwidth than they're worth.

  12. In response to one post...there are no errors when scanned or opened. The original avi goes like this. It is in sych when I start. The it goes out of synch for a minute...then back in for the remainder. However, when I convert to mpg, the entire thing is out of synch. I'll just concede at this point. I am a newbie and stumped but appreciate all your help!!!

You will have to concede . you won't answer any questions.
Therefore you won't get any answers.

There are probably 50 ways to play a video. It's important
to know what you used. You won't tell us .

"it's not in sync" implies that you think there is only one way.

I have the same problem with a couple AVIs. None of them give VBR errors in VirtualDUB. I strip the audio to WAV, convert with TMPGEnc and I get a drifting audio problem that gets worse as the file goes on. Works beautifully in AVI played through WMP and a couple other players. Zero bad frames and the problem happens even when I frameserve from VD.

I don't have a clue what the problem is to be honest. Wish someone could give me some clues.

Hey, Cephus, would you like to give Nick's Guide a shot? I have been wondering if it works, but have not tried it myself.

The problem is that if you watch it as an AVI, it's perfectly in sync. If you rip the uncompressed audio with VD, it starts out fine, but by the end of the show, the audio is about 1-2 seconds out of sync with the video. There are no bad frames but there is a slight drift as the program goes on.

I have had a similar problem. Any video over about 40 mins, run through TMPGEnc to vcd format gets out of sync toward the end.

What I have done on some video is convert 30 or so minutes of video at a time through TMPGEnc to vcd format, then join the seperate 30 min. mpgs in TMPGEnc mpg tools.

For some reason I get an audio beep or shriek at the joint, so I run it through TMPGEnc again, edit out the joint section and output to vcd format.

The final total video has audio insync and the joint beep edited out.
