  1. I just created a basic DVD in DVD Studio Pro with a Main Menu, Scene Select menu and a 6 minute video. I built the project and got a Ausio_TS file and a Video_TS file. I burned them onto a TDK DVD-R disk using Toast Titanium and a Pioneer 105 burner.

When i put the DVD-R into my Mac it plays fine, but it won't play in either of the two Sony stand-alone players I have. Does anyone have an idea of what might be happening or a step I didn't take?

    Thanks for your help.

Did you try to play the VIDEO_TS folder with Apple DVD player before you burned it?

Is this your first project (or just the first one that didn't work)?

I have a G4 with Pioneer 103 and 2 Sony Standalones and have had no problems (though I have never used TDK)

  3. This is my first project. I actually just tried it in a generic player and it worked fine. What DVD-Rs do you recommend to use with a Sony player?

Imation has been my favorite so far.

I have tried Fuji, they burn but will never verify successful in Toast Titanium (but they still play in my standalones though).

I bought a 5 pack of house brand DVD-RW from Fry's branded "Great Quality" that I use for testing and they verify and play great.

So at this point I can only say that I don't buy Fuji anymore.

  6. It seems many Sony set-tops do not accept -R. However, they all seem to play +R. Check the compatibility tables.

The older Sony's DO NOT like anything unless it is a factory disc....DVD or even CD. A girlfriend of mine has such a Sony. And it seems that the fancier the older Sony (ie 5.1 digital blah blah blah)...the worse they are(were). Her's wont play my +R's from my Philips 985.

  8. Have you tried burning to a DVD-RW disc and trying it in your Sony stand alone player? If it plays without problem, then try changing the settings of your burning software so that the DVD-R disc is burned as a DVD-ROM disc, which DVD-RWs are burned as. Also, Record Now Max burns DVDs that are comptable on most stand alone players. Hope this helps.

  9. When I put it into any of the Sony players I have, the door of my DVD player keeps opening. I read the compatibility of my player and it seems as though people have had no problems playing TDk DVD-Rs in that particular machine. Could it be the setting I'm burning it at or Toast?
