I have an .avi file that I want to be able to watch on my television via my standalone DVD player.

I've tried using both Toast 9 and Burn
(http://burn-osx.sourceforge.net/Pages/English/home.html) to encode the .avi as an .mpg and burn the video DVD. The result in both cases is a video DVD that display as a Video DVD on the desktop and plays fine in DVD Player.app on both my Mac G4 Quicksilver and my Mac G4 Sawtooth but won't play on either my Toshiba D-VR4SU standalone dvd player (which is supposed to be able to handle both + and - DVDs and has been able to play burned DVDs that other people have sent me) or on my neighbor's Pioneer DVD player.

I'm stumped. Is it the media I'm using (Philips Inkjet Printable DVD-Rs), or do I need a different DVD player?

    Thanks,

    Adam

When you look at the files on the DVD, do you have a Video_TS folder ? Does it have VOB, IFO and BUP files in it ?

Next, what is the framerate of the AVI file ? If it is 25 fps, and you didn't tell Toast to convert the filto an NTSC DVD, then you may have format issues.

One question you have not answered is what actually happens when you do put the disc in a standalone DVD player ? Do you get an error ? Does it read the disc ?

Choosing "NTSC" in Toast's preferences did the trick - thanks!
