    Hi,

I'm a newbie here, my problem is that I am getting coasters when burning to the +R format. I have tried a few different brand discs but no success, I have had 100% success with -R, so just wondering if this is a problem with my writer??
Im using the program "Copy to DVD" version 2.2.8.206
I'm not gain to try another program as i have gone thru enuf Coasters already

I've checked the Pioneer website, no mention of this sort of problem, I've done a search on this forum and couldn't seem to find anything.

    Hope I've given enuf info.

    Any help would be appreciated.

  2. Perhaps the playback device doesn't support +R ?

Besides what garry said, Try using DVD+RW's to test and stop making coasters...

I just bought a 106 also, but have yet to install it. Unfortunately, I've been hearing alot of problems with the 106 on this site, doesn't look good...

  4. the 106 HAS a COMPATIBILITY problem with copytodvd-all versions,using + format discs.
it either crashes, fails the write, or will not write at all on them.
i have taken this up with the programmers of the programme, and quite frankly was told,"until they can replicate the faults, then theres nothing they can do."
they did expect me to go out and purchase various brands of discs and try them, they also wanted me to send them a log-its in copytodvds folder, called "C2CD.LOG".
i sent it,but the problem with my 106 and this programme,is that it will cache the files, and the drive makes a "bzzz" noise a few times.
then teh drive light goes off,and i have to reset my pc to get the discs out.
but the log stops at the caching files part and wont go further.
if you could copy the log here or send me it,after a failed write-possibly the last one you did, then ill make sure they get it,as ive ruined too many discs to go and buy more, just to ,IMO,entertain them.
ive also updated the firmware to 1.07 from 1.06,and still no change.

    Thanks for the help people.

And to confirm the problem is a compatibility issue with CopytoDVD.
I have just successfully burnt a +R Disc at x4 using CloneDVD, playable on both my PC and Standalone player.

  6. From what I have seen from the 106 it is a little light on +R/RW media support. Ricoh media seems to work but other medias are touch and go.
I have had lockups in the middle of a write with CMC and Philips +R/RW media. This same media works fine in my Ricoh, Sony and NEC drives.
I am beginning to think that Pioneer released this drive just to get people ticked about +R/RW writing.

  7. on further investigation,i dont agree with you^^above poster^^.

ive had tech support from vso(sopytodvd) and the problem seems to be fixed.
anyways nero6.0.0.15,works perfectly on +R/+RW media,so its not the drive,it may add to the problems, but its not entirely pioneers fault.
    newer firmware helps,like the new 1.07,especially NIL's 1.07. :P

theres a new version of copytodvd out and it appears to work, but im just back from my work and havent had a chance to use it yet.
but try nero, for now, that should do the trick.

by the way,IMO,ricoh media, are pretty good, but CMC,and philips are unreliable and vary from batch to batch.

    try the updated firmware.

I'm having the same problem myself. Just purchased a LACIE model
unit, which is the Pioneer 106. I'm using 4X Memorex +R media.

I can burn a +r disc fine with dvd decrypter and all ulead products,
when burning an ISo image. But if i try to burn a DVD directory using
CLONE DVD or COPYTODVD, i get a bad disc. The burn seems to
work fine, but itsn ot playable on any machines, inlcuding the PC.

Since I have changed writing programs when burning to +R, I've had no probs with this burner I've used Verbatim & TDK discs.

winman42 - But if i try to burn a DVD directory using
CLONE DVD or COPYTODVD, i get a bad disc.

I've been using CloneDVD, no probs at all.

Like MeTaLgEaRsOoTy said, updating Firmware is a good idea [/quote]
