    My dad has a dv camcorder and wants to know if there is anyway i can put it onmy computer and encode it to vcd i am gonna use tmpg to encode it if i ever get it on my computer. Does anyone know how i can get it on my PC?

    If it has a firewire output, you use a firewire cable and a firewire card on your computer and you download it to the computer using DVIO or a similar program. Take this file and put it into TMPGEnc and create the VCD file. Read the guides to the left for the particulars.

    In my opinion the VCD format sucks ass for quality picture. You might as well save yourself the time and trouble and just record the original to a VHS video.

    If you really want to do this you should consider getting a DVD Burner and put it on a DVD-R but if that isn't an option then look into doing a SVCD or CVD as the quality will be MUCH better than a VCD.

    The trick of course is that not all stand alone DVD players can handle SVCD or CVD whereas almost all will play back a VCD.

    In my experience CVD seems to be more compatible than SVCD.
