  1. I recently brought a Pioneer dvr-a06. I have backed up several movies so far with out a problem. My question to you guys is do you think using my dvd +-rw drive to rip the movie will do any damage to the drive. I have a dvd-rom that i currently use. Just wondering if anybody had any guidance on this. Thanks in advance for the help!

  2. I would not say that it would damage it but obviously you are going to making the laser read more which will add more wear and tear to the drive.

Personally I would continue with your current method.

  3. If you have both drives a reader only and a burner, I would use the reader. May depend on drive types But I think you might actually get faster ripps. For sure using a $30 drive will save wear and tear on the burner

IF you need to pull the reader for some reason like to install something else on that connecter, it shouldn't hurt to ripp with the burner, it just gets more use and may wear out faster is all. But then agian, by the time it wears out you can proably replace it for $60, it won't happen over night

  4. There are softwares out there (DVDXCopy for example) that will let you rip and burn without physically removing the original disc and putting a blank disc in.. that way, you don't have to babysit the thang.

I guess Shaw was right when he said we were two peoples separated by a common language.

Anyway, RabidDog, what I think Gil T Pleasure is saying is you put the original disk in the DVD-ROM and the blank disk in your burner, select your options and start the procedure. Then do something else productive. Later, when you realize what you had been doing in the first place, you open your burner and remove a brand new copy of the original. No disk swaps, no waiting on the rip to complete before burning, etc. I hope I was more clear.

  8. Lets see! I can replace my DVD reader for about US$45.00 but to replace my DVD writer I would have to fork out around US$162.00.

This is starting to look like a no brainer to me!!
