  1. Seems i have a small problem...

With Sonic MyDVD, i build menus for DVD, hit BURN and wait... files are cached and transcoded etc. BUT, the program hangs/freezes my comp. (pc clock stops) when the progress bar gets to 'Setting Timestamp'. Hard reboot.

With Nero, i put the vob and vub files in the correct places and hit BURN and wait... files are cached and checked and seen to be okay, BUT my sony dru510a burner remains IDLE, the progress clock stays at 0:00 and my pc freezes. Hard reboot.

With Ulead Movie Factory 2 and Ulead DVD WorkShop (Trial editions) similar thing happens in that all the files are cached and transcoded and everything, but when it comes to burning... Nada. Error message or comp freezes.

Have checked my burner and it does function correctly - i CAN burn data in Nero (latest verion 5.10.42) and i can read data from the drive in explorer - and there are no conflicts in device manager.

Please help!! Am going to lose ALL my hair in frustration!

not too swatted up on my burners, but is the sony dru510a a dual format burner?.
I have the same kind of problem with my pioneer 106.
like you said i can edit the menus and so on but when it comes to the time for the program to recognise my burner all i get is a frozen pc.
never had the problem with pioneer 105, it's only since i bought this dual burner.

If you can burn a data DVD, you can burn a video DVD. (There is no difference.)

Try using DVD Workshop to burn to a folder rather than directly to the DVD. Then use an external burning app (Nero in your case) to burn the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders that Workshop created. They must be at the root of the burned disk.

  4. Just checked again and i am unable to burn anything - I couldn't burn data in Nero, either (not even the first time, as i previously stated) - but the burner did work in a different pc.

May have to try PIO mode 4 or Multiword DMA...

I would check and make sure that your burner is not on the same ide cable as a hard disk. If you have anything else (CD burner, DVD Rom, etc.) on the same cable as the DVD burner, make sure that one is set to master and the other to slave. DVD burners usually work better as the master.

  6. I use DVD Movie Facotry and sometimes it does hang. I found a solution to it. First in the output phase, select 'Burn Disc Image'. Then click 'Output Disc'

Sometimes the program does hang on the burn phase. Everytime it has, the program never wrote anything on the disc. Go back to the start of the program and select 'Copy Disc'. Select 'Copy Disc Image.' The disc image should have been created. Default it's titled 'DVD' and you can find it by going into 'My Documents ->DVD MovieFactory -> 2.0. Select the disc image file and output disc.

I don't know why the program hangs, but this solution has never failed. I usually make multiple copies of any of my projects anyways.
