Hi
As far as my ignorance goes, I thought that the THX standard was a specification for building theaters that would conform to the same sound ambience-acoustic as the film mixing rooms, regardless the actual sound system used in the film print (which would be any of the common, Doulby DTSs, whatever) . To my surprise, I´ve seen some home videos DVD-titles that have a label THX-Certified in it. Question is, what exactly is this THX certification for DVD, what´s the actual use for it and what does it, in practice, means ??
thanks
Andre

AFAIK it's just another way for Lucas to make money.
I have the Artisan edition of T2 and it has a THX test for your A/V system.

My understanding - when used on DVDs, etc. - it means that the material - video and audio - has been produced and tested to match the original's quality.
Perhaps I'm wrong. It seems intended as a form of guaranty. There's no place like 127.0.0.1

THX video is nothing new ... this was done first with LaserDiscs then with VHS and now DVD
It simply means that the video and audio were mastered to exacting standards of the THX program.
I don't know EXACTLY what those standards are but basically it's a bunch of technical guidelines as to how to process the video and audio to get the best quality possible from the original source.
