  1. i want to get one of these but i read a ton of posts on how the dvd-r's
    wont play in other machines.

will they work in a play station 2?

i think if you go thru all the trouble of recording with this machine, then put your dvd-r into your pc and then re-author and add cool menus, why not get a DVD+RW machine? right? this media plays on most dvd players, correct? and you can edit it, you dont have to finalize.......am i thinkin right?

    thanks!

The major reason most people find it neccessary to use this machine and even the other recorders in this family is for the video quality. I've use many different products for the PC and found them o.k. as far as quality goes. I also found while using PC products all sorts of complications such as audio sync issues, lock ups and time consuming conversions were fustrating to say the least.

You can not in most cases beat the quality of the Panasonic recorders. Most Pc consumer devices on the shelf are not able to even come close, they do not live up to their billing.

I am extremely picky about quality and found the standalone does the best job in such a small amount of time. I do agree that it can be a pain having to take a DVD-Ram disk from the standalone and author it using a PC, when sometimes you might not want to create menus.

I must admit I am keeping my options open for a recorder that gives the same quality video, yet makes a disk that is more compatible than the Panasonic brands.

  3. GREAT REPLY!

exactly.........the e80 sounds great for the quality, but dont you think a machine that has these bugs fixed and can make cool menus is right around the corner? id hate to drop $800 and then somethin better comes out in a month.

have you heard of anything coming out soon?

  4. do you think the sony machine(RDRGX7) that makes DVD+RW's is any good?

the only downside is you would have to clone or do your recording over to make a copy.

Well, I don't think I will be making any additional copies of the disks I have already made. Most of them were authored using the computer just as I mentioned earlier.

I'm very happy with the E50 and will continue to use it. Remember the cost for these machines continue to drop as more manufacturers continue to enter the arena.

I've never owned any of the other recorders and could not comment on the quality and compatiblility of any of them. Yet I am willing to bet that they don't have compatibility problems that the Panasonic recorders do.
