Hey all, I see this special at Best Buy. (99.99-26.00 Instant Rebate - 9.00 Mail in Rebate) which works out to $1.30 per DVD-R. Are these discs good quality? Does anyone knows who makes 'em? Also, it doesn't give a burn speed (from what I see in the ad).

I don't know who makes them, but I know that their DVD+R equivalent have worked great.

The FUJI 10-pack of DVD-R discs say MADE IN JAPAN and are made by Taiyo-Yuden and are sometimes 2x compatible or sometimes 4x compatbile. Either way super great media.
However ... the 50 pack says MADE IN TAIWAN and are NOT made by Taiyo-Yuden. Some people have reported that they are RITEK G03 DVD-R discs. These burn at 1x on most DVD burners although I believe some can do 2x but I think that requires a hacked firmware.
Just a heads up for anyone thinking of taking advantage of the sale.

Thanks for all the replies. Looks like I'll be holding off on this. Why anyone would pay $65.00 for 1X media today is a wonder.

Not the best price in the world, since you are basically paying the same thing that you would via mail order for Ritek G04 4X media, but you can pick it up around the corner if you need some good media fast.
