Ok, I screwed something up again so I re-formatted my HDD. Now everything is cool but I keep getting these strange pop-ups when I am connected to the internet. I have my firwall up and running, anti-virus software running and I scanned for spyware and I still keep getting the pop ups. What's weird is that I don't need to be on a webpage to get the popups, and the pop up that comes up tells me I should go this website and download pop up software so I don't see the pop up anymore or others like it.

Any suggestions on what I have missed here because I am puzzled.

  2. Your problem is spam via the messenger service running over the netbios protocol

Download and run "Shoot The Messenger"

Oh, I have been really busy with work lately solarjetman...but it's great to see you posting in one my threads. :P

As for what freestyler said...he hit it on the nose. The pop up says it's some messenger service that has my IP address or something like that. I will run that program and hopefully fix this.

    Thanks!

Cool, I never noticed we joined the same day. But yeah, you can really rack up the posts in the off topic and computer forums That probably makes up about two-thirds of my posts.

Yeah, he gave you good advice. I couldn't really add anything to it There is a way to disable it manually, but if grc has a program that does it, that is just fine.

Yep, all is well now! And just a heads up to anyone that decides to re-format their HDD anytime soon. What I have found is that the second you wipe all of the windows security updates off your computer, the system is completely vulnerable to the blaster worm as well as the welchia worm. I got both of them the second I conncted to the internet to start downloading the security updates after my re-format. Thankfully, I backed up the fixes for the viruses onto a cd and loaded that b4 doing nething else.

Just some words of advice, that's all!
