  1. I apologize for posting another one of these comparisons.
I realize the spec differences but the price competition has been so tight lately where I live that these drives are almost the same price so I just wanted everyone's expert opinions. I am currently leaning towards the plextor despite the sony's huge 8mb buffer but I figure with the buffer underrun protection of both pioneer and plextor, it doesn't matter.
Again, looking for performance and stability.
    What are your experiences?

  2. well, ive ripped and burnt nearly 400 discs on my pioneer 105,so i went for the 106,weighing the price, performance and quality off against each other, the 106 was the one i went for.
ive done about 200+ discs on this writer, and so far only like 1 or 2 of them have been nearly coasters, which is more than i can say about the sony or plextor.
my friends sony has been nothing but trouble, and anothers plextor-thats all that makes is coasters.
    pioneer gets my vote.

  4. Also, I believe the A06 is the same drive as the 106D and the DRU-510a is the same as the DWU-14A.

In the UK the Plextor is £200, the Pioneer 106D is £125 and the Sony DWU-14A is £139 all include VAT and delivery. On that basis if they are all as good as each other go for the Pioneer.

I have all 3. Not a problem with anyone of them. 2 Sony's, 2 Pioneers and 2 Plextors. If price matters, get the cheapest one. If quality matters, pick anyone of them. People's problems with writers can generally be traced to a crappy computer (OEM), outdated drivers, conflicting software. If you have enough money to throw at technolgy, it usually performs flawlessly.

  7. Why isnt the LDW - 411S part of this?
I hear plextor is limited to the media it can burn to...

I just installed a dw-u14a and have not burnt a coaster yet, so far I am
very pleased with its performance. No problems to report.
