Hello. I need some help. I've downloaded TV episodes in AVI format that I am turning into DVDVCD's. Most come off with out a hitch, but there are a few that won't work. I've tried many programs, the majority of which were linked to from this site or recommended in these forums. The only program I've found that usually converts my AVI to MPEG is EO Video.

Usually, it will create a good looking MPEG file with no audio sync problems, but every once in a while (about 1 in 10), the converted file is not a recognizable video file. Nero will still author it into a VCD, so I know it's still a video file, but in the file directory it's just labled "File" under file type.

The program I use to create the DVDVCD is Ulead Movie Factory. It will accept the MPEG files. It does a good job with those, but will not accept the other "files."

Like I said, EO Video is the only conversion program I've found that will even accept or recognize these AVI files. Any help as to why some of these converted files aren't being recognized as MPEGs sure would be appreciated. Thanks a lot!

  2. Surely you should be able to use tmpgenc to convert avi to mpg. Creating mpg with eovideo is painfully slow. Its best use is converting realmedia files.

I wish it did. It's completely possible that I just don't know what I'm doing or what I'm talking about, but I don't think that's the case. It's been about 10 months since I tried to use Tmpgenc (I've been working on this and studying these groups that long) but it wouldn't accept it. It would give me an error message. I can't remember what the message was though, and it's on another machine that I won't have access to until later this week so I know I can't help you help me there.

You're right about EO Video being slow, but, like I said, it's the only thing that (usually) works and does a good job. I don't care if it takes days, as long as it works well.

I'll try Tmpgenc again on Tuesday or Wednesday and see if it works.

    Thanks again for the help.
