I'm wondering what compressed movies (DVD2one or whatever) look like on HDTV. With my regular TV.... hell, even SVCD looks good!

So are all these DVD2one backups going to look nasty when I finally take the leap to HDTV? I know it will depend on how much compression was applied, so can present HDTV owners share their experiences. At what % compression will it start to get really noticeable? I know it's quite subjective. I'm just trying to get a feel for how much compression is acceptable, and unfortunately don't have the hardware to see for myself.

    1. Movie only copy - looks best for compressed dvd
    2. Disk copy - depends on how large the dvd was to start.
if its say 8 gigs and you make it 4.4 you have a 50% loss in size.
    3. What kind of tv are we talking here?
Ive watched dvdr backups on a 52 inch projection screen, cant tell the difference really
Ive watched dvdr backs up on 32 inch plasma screen wall mounts and you CAN tell a difference.

It really depends on what tv you are talking about. If you are worried, do a movie only copy. thats the BEST you can do for dvdr

well... no. you can split it over 2 dvd and then its the same as source, but thats 2 disks.
