  1. Hi,

I am looking at translating some japanese to english.

all I have is an information brochure.

All the translators that I have found on the web , rely on the user actually typing the text in.

Is there a translator (pref freeware) that I can use if I scan my document in to say a jpg file & then get it transalted?? or am I asking too much.

    thanks

I would think for freeware, you are asking too much.

you need something that's going to perform Optical Character Recognition on Kanji characters. I'm not sure you can find freeware to do OCR on English - unless it came with your scanner, that stuff costs.

Plus, even the best OCR I've ever seen screws up some text and it has to be manually corrected - how are you going to accurately correct a language you don't understand?

better bet - find someone who can read Japanese and have them take a look at it.

    Valian,

This was the first or second hit on a search, but it may help.

I wouldn't mind translating it for you, if you send me a jpg of the brochure. PM me, if you're interested.

It might take me a while, though. I'm not very good with kanji, so I'll probably have to ask my wife to help me. I should be able to get back to you by the weekend.

Also, make sure you mention something in the subject field, that I'll recognize. I delete all e-mails that I'm not expecting, so I don't want to erase something from you by accident.

Oops. I forgot to give you my e-mail. mistatristan(spamalamma)hotmail.com.

mrtristan, you might want to edit your email a little more. Put something like SPAMSUCKS, or REMOVESPAM, etc. in the middle of it. That will help fend off the harvesters.
Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... But they never do, do they?

I wouldnt do that. I filter my emails looking for something I recognize. I.e.= i would delete herbal cream, no spam offer, removespam, but not s/t like DVDRHELP.com RULES!
