My Eyes are burning! Help

When I sit at my computer lately my eyes start burning. I have a lot of stuff laying around such as paper, CDs, printers, VHS recorders etc, etc, but nothing I can detect that would give off fumes. My wife detects it too. I know it's weird but has anyone had this problem?

Well once, I was sitting @ my 'puter and my eyes started burning too.............Oh wait.........I farted. Sorry, no advice for this one.

First of all, move the paper.

Now first check the monitor, these can get extremely hot but shouldn't do anything like that.

I'm betting it is something in your PC. Take the side off it and let it run until you get the burning smell. (Don't stick your face or hands inside the PC at this point) Now turn your PC off. Try to remember what the oldest component in there is. If you don't know, the likeliest places to check are the processor (very likely, its the hottest) mobo (could be burning up from being under heavy use) and PSU (power supply, can get pretty hot). If you still haven't got to the sorce of it, unplug everything you don't need to run the computer (second HDD, CD/DVD/RW, floppy) if the smell comes back, it is one of the main components, check them all out. If it has gone, plug each component that you unplugged back in one, by one, uuntil you locate the culprit.

Double check you're not still running that thing at 60hz refresh rate, for one (does it seem to visibly flicker?)... or too bright. It may just be looking at the picture too much for too long without much of a break and if it's overly bright or flickery that amplifies the pain.

The best way to check if its running at 60hz is to not look directly at the screen, look off to the side slightly and you'll see it flicker... or you could just check the settings

I haven't had this prob, but I've heard about it. the theory that I've heard is that to some dust particles, the (running) monitor will act as a repellant, and push them away - which means that some are being pushed right at your face and eyes.

If you pick up a glare screen, that should do double duty as a block for those particles.
