I would really appreciate all opinions on this.

    http://rapidshare.com/files/85058022/Trial7.mpg

Captured from VHS using Pinnacle Studio USB

    Processing:

    AVISynth
    DeSpot (To remove hairlike articles)

    VirtualDub
Null Transform with crop to remove noise from all 4 sides

    TMPGEnc
Encode with CQ 65 and remux with Audio I attempted to dehiss using Audacity.

Any and all opinions (no matter how derogatory) are much appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Alan

Here are some of the things I notice and would appreciate any ideas as to the cause.

    Green/Yellow spot on hangglider wing.

It's a rather old commercial VHS tape of a documentary.

Were any of these issues on the recording before you edited it ?

Were any of these issues on the VHS when you played it through the tv ?

Did you drop any frames in the capture ?

Some of the issues look like tape 'dropouts'. Faults in the magnetic structure of the tape. You can correct these but not through filtering. You achieve this by cloning the colours around the artifact and painting over it frame-by-frame.

I can see the same faults on the Raw capture file

To be honest, my eyes are not good enough to see these types of single frame things while watching the VHS on TV, so I'm not sure.

I think a total of 3 frames were dropped.

I'm wondering if the faults are on the VHS tape or they are being caused by the "El Cheapo" Sony VCR I am currently using.

    No VCR will correct drop-outs.

But to be honest, I found it difficult to spot the issues when playing back the vid at normal speed.

If the problems are only on one or two frames then it's frankly IMO not worth worrying over.
