  1. Hi.

I need to know what is the easiest way to edit(splitting) a Mpeg file in half. The files I have are all around 40 mins long and I want to fill up a CDR. My plan is to burn 1 1/2 on one CDR. Is there a program out there that can do this very easily?

  3. Chopper & CHopperXP are great for cutting. AVOID M2 Edit Pro because m2 Edit Pro has an ugly habit of transcoding your MPEG files when you cut 'em. I cut some MPEG files with m2 Edit and they exploded to double their size (!) Not good.
To join MPEG files (1 or 2) TMPGEnc works great. You DON'T want to use TMPGEnc to cut MPEG files because TMPG doesn't pay attention to I or P frames -- it just works by time. This means that if you cut with TMPGEnc, you can wind up with some I-frames without the required P-frames. In practical terms, this means that if you cut an MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 file with TMPG, you are likely to get a burst of digital noise at the cut point after you join 'em together.
If you cut with Chopper you avoid this problem. Joining MPEG files with TMPG produces no video problems, only cutting. So stick with Chopper. (Or, alternatively, cut with M2 Edit Pro and then re-encode with TMPG -- an ugly solution, Chopper is much nicer to work with.)
