  1. I use a dv Camcorder to make home movies which I want to transfer onto a dvd-r for standalone players. I want the best quality I can get. I had tried to use virtual dub to capture and seperate the audio and video which TMPGEnc encoder program says I need to do to get around audio sync issues but virtual dub can't seperate them as my avi type 1 from my sony Camcorder. Is there another program that can help me easily seperate the audio and video from my dv capture to keep TMPGEnc encoder happy ? Or is there another easier method than TMPGEnc encoder to handle my sync issues. I also use maestro to compile the audio and video then burn with Nero.

Well have you tried converting the file with TPMG without splitting audio and video, to see if you actually get out of sync? I use TMPGEnc to encode to vcd, and I've never had sync issues.
However, Virtualdub can handle type 2 DV-avi, just use a little program called DVIO which let you select if you want type 1 or 2 DV-avi.
    Hopes this helpes.
Just because you aren't paranoid, doesn't mean they aren't out to get you!

yeah as henk suggests just transfer your DV as type 2 instead of type 1. TMPGEnc will open type 2 fine, and won't introduce any sync issues.

The sync issues you see mentioned so often (which people reccomend seperating audio and video in Vdub to fix) only really relates to broken downloaded .AVI files. You should never have a problem using DV.

  4. I downloaded the DVIO program and will try it.

Thanks loads for the help, hope I can someday be in the position of helping someone else rather than always be the one asking for help.
