  1. Hi, I have a pentium 3 1GHZ proccesor. Ive been wanting to upgrade my computer for sometime now so my video encoding would go finish faster. At the moment the fastest speed for Pentium 4 is 3.2 GHZ. I was wondering if anyone here knew when the next generations of Pentiums will be coming out and if they would be alot faster then the current generation or about the same. Also, i was wondering if processor cache size affects video encoding times. Thanks in advance

  2. unless you have lots of $$$ to spare, i would suggest you NOT to buy the latest CPU...because chip makers charge an exponentially higher rate on the latest processors than even 1 generation earlier...

for example... a jump from 2.8 Ghz to 3.0 Ghz may only be $50...but if you were to jump from 3.0 Ghz to the latest (assume for this example :P) 3.2 Ghz, it may cost you like $200.

so, for the same .2 Ghz jump...jumping to the latest CPU is gonna cost you lots of $$$...

yes, cache is extremeley important....... a lot of the lower end models (i.e. celeron and duron) have less cache

  3. 3 GHz to 3.2 GHz will make a marginal difference only in my opinion. Certainly not worth the money.
