  1. I just picked up a Pioneer DV-563a and for the most part, I'm elated with this unit. The only trouble I'm having is with SVCD's.

According to the manual, the 563a doesn't support SVCD's only the DV-667a does. So, I called Pioneer to inquire about the 667 and they said that model is for Europe only. The tech support person said the DV-563 does support SVCDs and maybe I should go back to the store and exchange it for another unit.

Well, the unit does play SVCD's but they don't have the correct aspect ratio (regardless of the screen setting). All my SVCD's look squashed (imagine a 16:9 frame on a 4:3 TV). However, if I re-burn the SVCD's using the VCD header trick, they play fine. I've also tried the SVCD2DVD trick and it also plays the SVCD's perfectly.

My question is for other Pioneer DV-563a owners. Do SVCD's play correctly on your players? Does a full frame SVCD play using the full screen. Do I have a bad unit or is this a flaw in these players? Maybe it's something a hidden menu could fix?

    Any help would be appreciated,

    Jeneral

  2. If you set it for 16x9 ratio it seems to be about right, anything else is too narrow or it overfills the screen and cuts off the sides. I just got one Sunday at Best Buy.
Most of us have more then one player so it's not a huge thing anyways.
For the money it's the best thing out there right now and SACD's sound awesome
