virtualDub Filters for cleaning up low bitrate block noise.

Hi I'd love some advice on VirtualDub filters that clean up block noise on low bitrate DivX source files.

Using VirtualDub, I have been playing around with some filters such as noise reduction but I understand that there are better filters then the internal ones that came with VDub.

I have been filtering in VirtualDub and frameserving into TMPGEnc Plus to make DVD mpg2.

Someone once recommended to me 2d cleaner. Any other filters I should try that produce good results? Knowing what filters and settings have worked well for others will narrow down my experimentation time significantly.

Filters to play with:

- Temporal Smoother: This gonna eliminate for soure some artifacts.

- Static Noise Reduction: This baby eliminates for good many artifacts but: It also blures the picture. My problem with this is that I don't know a good sharping filter for after the static noise reduction filter


- 2D Cleaner: It is the best, but also blures a lot the picture.... Unsharp mask might or not help after this filter is used


- General Convolution. I know that this is an amazing filter. I have done some tests with great results! Can please someone teach me how to use it 100% I believe is the best solution for cleaning block noise!

Spatial Smoother (dividee) will remove block noise completely but will also blur the video somewhat.

I have found that the filters in Virtualdub do practically nothing even when set to the highest setting.
