    Hi,

I have ripped an NTSC DVD and I was wondering if I use DVDx to encode the film and I select 25 FPS (PAL) instead of NTSC frame rate will the film look ok when encoded and played back?

    Thanks for any answers.

Take a look at this website:
    http://www.geocities.com/xesdeeni2001/StandardsConversion/index.html

You need to find out if the NTSC DVD is PROGRESSIVE or INTERLACED. You can use DVD2AVI to determine that.

If the NTSC DVD is INTERLACED (29.97fps) then look at STEP VII (7) on the website link above.

If the NTSC DVD is PROGRESSIVE (23.976fps) then look at STEP IV (4) on the website link above. This step is for a VCD source but substitute DVD for VCD and it works the same way.

Please note that I don't think you need to change the original audio with STEP VII (7) so you might as well just demux your AC-3 audio in DVD2AVI and use that. You do need to change the audio if going from 23.976fps to 25fps using the STEP IV (4) guide. For this I would demux the AC-3 audio with DVD2AVI then run that audio file through BeSweet and the BeSweet GUI. There is an PRE-SET option for doing NTSC (23.976fps) to PAL (25.000fps) conversion.

    Good Luck

    P.S.
    Some pitfalls ...

1.) If using the original AC-3 audio make sure you use AC3Delay to correct the delay value to 0 (zero) if it is something OTHERTHAN 0

2.) If using BeSweet and the BeSweet GUI to convert your audio from 23.976fps to 25.000fps then be sure that you use the most current BETA versions of both. Also please note it should work going from AC-3 to AC-3 or AC-3 to WAV but not from AC-3 to MP2. So if you want MP2 sound you will have to first do the frame rate change going from AC-3 to WAV then convert your new corrected WAV to MP2. Also please note that you can correct the delay value when doing the frame rate conversion. Again the delay value only needs to be corrected if it is something OTHERTHAN 0 (zero)

3.) If you use RGB mode (instead of YUV mode) in DVD2AVI then you don't need the AviSynth line about ConvertToRGB
