Help connecting digital video cam to firewire

I have a digital canon MV200 (Ultura in USA). When I plug it in to firewire on my Nforce 2 motherboard windows xp makes the plug n play noise but does not detect the camera. Does anyone know what I am doing wrong? Thanks in advance!

What program are you using to capture with? Did you start that program first?

I'm using Windows Movie Maker. But I click to record from device, and it claims there are no DV cameras attached.

Device manager lists the 1394 bus controller, and also when I click "show hidden devices" I can see an AVC Device. Could this device be my camera?

I have had problems with my Firewire card.

Noting your post, I get imaging devices in Device Manager on CN1 (port1) but not the other 2. Despite this W2K will recognise my Jukebox III if it is plugged in by starting the new hardware wizard.

Any ideas as to what might be causing this.??
