I would like to make some backup of some home video into smaller size. How do I accomplish this?
Thanks

You would need to give us more information to start with. What kind of AVI do you have? From a camcorder or a video from a still camera. What format? DV-AVI?
If DV, you might try VirtualDub, the Panasonic DV Codec to open the video, and the Xvid codec to encode. VD has many guides available on it's 'Tool page'. -
Thanks for the replies so far. Yes, I will be using the format DV Avi or dvd mpeg 2 so I would like to be able to convert them to Xvid and/or Divx.
