I can solve one of your problems at least.
If you go to the Double Click website (www.doubleclick.net maybe .com) they can issue you a cookie that tells it's tracking banners not to record/issue you tracking cookies.
I even believe Ad Aware can tell the difference between a normal doubleclick.net cookie and they non-tracking one.
You could also up your privacy settings in the Internet Explorer Options menu from 'Medium' (default) to 'Medium High'. -

(although for some reason, all of a sudden my work computer won't take a damn cookie for this site, and I have to log in manually every time! balls!)- housepig

but can i turn off cookies and still have all my message board login and passwords remembered?

I believe I just found a method (for IE6 anyway).
1) Go to Tools -> Options -> Privacy
2) Now slide the button all the way upto 'Block all Cookies'.
3) Down the bottom of that window will be an area titled 'Web Sites' and it allows you to over ride the options for individual web sites. Click on 'Edit' and add the URL's of your forum sites and click 'Allow'.
That should then make IE do want you want it to.
