Reading that just makes my heart sink.
I'm all for correction but the very thought that this women is trying to move on and make friends almost makes me weep.
I have a son almost the same age as her youngest, and I would die before I let anything happen to him.
It takes something not of this earth to kill children.

Dude, I remember that crap. It was in my state!!!! That was some crazy stuff!! I can remember seeing her on TV beggin the person who had her kids to release them. I have very little symphany for her, but do not wish her harm. Perhaps she has changed, and think that if she wants to write to someone she is entitled to it.

    What does this mean tgpo?
This was before she killed them, right?
Who had the children, the state?

Her ad doesn't appear to be very long after the murder's.
I don't want to offend you man and this is a genuine quesion but do children get murdered every day over there?
Are American's conditioned in seeing so many children die that another couple are just statistics?
I must confess there's so many suicide bomber's happening over in the West Bank that I'm sorry to say it's easy just to view it as another peice of news.
I imagine Sefy (Israel) would be shocked by this and I honestly don't mean to offend anyone but I think it's just human nature.
There's so much shit going on in the world it becomes easy, almost automatic not to believe what you see and mentally switch off.
Over here, with kids, it's a different matter.
A year or so ago two little girls (from Soham, you hear about it?) went missing and turned up dead - appraently killed by the school caretaker.
It went on for what seems like a lifetime (I think they went missing for a fortnight, maybe less) and the entire TV was covered in it.
People in my village were stunned, it had a real negative impact and we're no where near Soham.

The children were 'missing' she went on TV begging (crying and all hysterical ) for whoever had them to let them go - like they were kidnapped or something. When all along she actually killed them.

She killed the kids, and told everyone that someone had hijacked the car. She said she didn't know where the kids were and even went of national television asking for anyone with any information to please contact the police. Later the police found holes in her story and during an interigation she confessed to the killings herself.

I don't want to offend you man and this is a genuine quesion but do children get murdered every day over there?

Far from it. We had a child go missing from just down the block. They later found the child dead and eventually found the killer. I'm not really sure where the statistics comment came from Will, but believe me, killing a child is one of thw worst things you could possibly do. They are innocents, they can't fight back, it's just sick. In fact I've heard stories of people who go to jail for crime against kids, and the other murderers and inmates will single them out due to their crime being against kids.

Exactly. I've always said, go ahead and take a whack at me if you want. I can defend myself. Kids can't. And it's true, not even hardened criminals like acts against kids....

They weren't statistic's as such tgpo, I was simply trying to ascertain how common these horrendous crimes were in the US.
For instance, gun crime in the UK isn't too common. Sure, it happens, but it still makes the main news at 10pm.
It's more common in the US, right?
I know killing a child is one of the worst things tgpo, anyone who doesn't agree is much like the subject matter in this thread = inhuman.

Not sure about that but I remember pulling into Portsmouth for a port visit a few years ago. I remember the guards at the front gate with semi-automatic weapons. I was like, holy crap, better watch my P's and Q's.....

Yup, although we have rapid reposonse units who come out pretty quickly.
The police at my local airport was teaming with armed (heckler and kock, spelling?) machine-guns a few months ago in response to a terrorist threat.
In most cases, if these special police blokes are called out they have to have permission (beforehand of course) to use the weapons from a senior police officer.
I would never vote to arm our police force...
...they have big sticks and spray stuff, what more do they need?
Joking apart, I think it's the worst thing we could do and from gut reaction these special force units who are allowed weapon's are fine.

    Perhaps I should clarify..
..The general police, bobbies (patrols) whether on foot, bike or car do not have guns, no.
Custom's, Airports etc., high risk stuff I imagine would have some form of weapons although this might be limited to one armed unit in three.

I can imagine, although when I was over there we felt completely safe.
We couldn't find any pubs though, and when I say pubs I mean places to drink, rather eat and drink.
Are they not too common in the US?
We have them every fifty yeards over here

Actually in North Augusta, my home town, we have a few bars and we have an English Pub!!! Called the Highlander, it's just down the street from my house. Bars are fairly common around here, but Pubs will be harder to come by. Typically bars are in clubs or restuarants, but some are of their own.

I see she's found or rekindled her faith....... it's pretty strange that when people get sentenced for a long time they 'discover' faith. A cynic might say that they're attempting to make themselves look better when parole comes up, but I'd like to think it's a sign of forgiveness.

As for police and guns, few things would give me a greater sense of protection than if the police were allowed to carry firearms. It's a bit one sided over here at the moment - a few years back (after a school shooting), private posession (in your home, not on the street!) of hand guns was made illegal. This didn't effect the criminals (who get a steady supply of weapons from Europe) only the law abiding. It's time things were evened out a bit.

I recall an essay by Mark Steyn (us political commentator over here) about gun control and how removing guns from the people results in increased crime. In it he said that the two states with the highest level of gun ownership (TX and VT) had the lowest level of crime, and that in his native New Hapshire crime is virtually non-existent. Can anyone back this up?
    Regards,

    Rob

Reminds me of the Richard Ramirez(night stalker) trial where there were groupies in the courtroom that wanted to bear his children.

I'd like to see the statistics on accidental shootings in TX and VT.... you know, the old "hey, I found my dad's gun in his nightstand... I don't think it's loaded...."

    1 casket, size small, please.

I'd have much less problems with gun ownership* in this country if we were more responsible as a society.

(*not hunting weapons, but handguns and semi-automatics).

(*not hunting weapons, but handguns and semi-automatics). Oh yea, I forget hunting weapons can not kill, just handguns and semi-automatics.
First they came for my neighbor and I did nothing, now they come for me and there is no one to turn to because I did nothing!!

God only knows if I have heard that crap once, I have heard it a hundred times. It is just convoluted logic. The bad guys still get all the guns they want. We have volumes of laws that can not help stupid, why city dwelling fools should infringe on my rights because they know or read about someone who was stupid and the story ended in a tragedy!! There is a plan for all of us, just follow it and be at peace.

In the wonderful state of Washington we fricking shoot back. I still own dozens of firearms!!!! I had a FFL [Federal Firearms License] for a long while and could buy, sell and trade firearms. I used it mostly to get a better rate on purchases for myself and close Friends. Even then you could save 40/60% on handguns with a FFL. And then, Thank You Mr. Brady, my lic went from $100.00 or so a year to $5000.00 or so. I do not have a FFL any more because it was not really a business but more personal use. Now only criminals can obtain cheap firearms, and do so at will????
