  1. I have a bunch of VCDs and I'm wondering if it's possible to put a couple VCDs onto a DVDR. This way I can carry less CDs/DVDs. Also is there a way to place a menu for the DVDR so each VCD will be a chapter? Can someone point me in the right direction please?

YES very simple. all you have to do is trade 44.1 K to 48k sampling for the audio, the rest is just like a DVD

  4. Or even easier use the TMPGenc DVD author program. As long as they are true VCD it'll accept the VCD MPGs, you create the menu and author. It seems to convert trhe audio for you.

I did one last night and I haven't checked the audio for sync issues yet. I just put it in the player and the converted VCD looked ok, But it was late so....

Actually i mixed 1/2 D1 and VCDs and converted VCDs where I'd changed the audio already. Only thing I had to do was use different titles for each type. The 1/2 D1s were converted from SVCD 480 by 480 converted to 352 by 480 and they looked ok. The video quality of the VCDs that TMPGenc DVD converted the audio on looked unchanged so a little more testing. The actual authoring took longer than if I was using DVD ready files but overall was much easier than using Baldricks guide which works fine for me too.

For me doing it this way or with Baldricks guide means a 700 meg VCD uses 700 meg of DVD space so I can fit quite a lot on one DVD disk.

    Good Luck

    Yes,

There are alot of authoring programs out there that will accept a (VCD)mpg and creat a DVD out of them. I have used:

DVD Movie Factory 2 - very simple, limited menu's
Tmpgenc DVD Author - moderate, better menu options
DVD Workshop - most advance out of the three, most expensive, best options for menu's

    I prefer DVD Workshop

Remember as stated above, these programs are used to create a menu's, re-encode the audio to 48 khz, and create dvd compliant files. VCD video does not need to be re-encoded.

SVCD's, on the other hand, either have to be converted (resolution of video is NOT part of the DVD spec.) or you have to use a program like SVCD2DVDMPG+, which may or may not be compatible with your player.

  7. I can DVDPatcher the SVCDs and they play fine that way, but just in case for future total caompatability I've been resizing them to 1/2D1 352 by 480 @2400....

That way they are now total DVD spec and should play in any DVD player. There'll always be exception of course but more likely this way.

    Cheers
