  1. I am capturing a few different t.v. shows that I plan on putting onto a dvd in the future, but for now I would also like to keep them on my pc and watch them from there. My question is if I encode these files to an xvid or divx for now, when I later re-encode them to be put on a dvd, will the quality be worse than if I saved the original large capture file and encoded for the dvd from that? What I really need to know is if I should save the original capture avi in addition to my smaller, encoded files that I make with virtualdub. Thanks in advance for your help.

  2. 3 posts on the same topic seems to be enough...

The answer to your question is yes. Each time you encode the quality will go down a little depending on the amount you recompress it. It would have better quality if you kept the original but sometimes that isnt possible.

  3. nyijedi, please do not post the same question in multiple forums.
I can understand why you were not sure where to post this, but if you find yourself in a similiar situation in the future just pick one forum. If it is considered to be the wrong one, then a mod will move it.

Your other two posts on this subject have been closed.
